Recasting The Mould? or ‘Was John Robinson a Prophet?’

Modern Believing (2013), 54, (2), 150–157.

Abstract

Honest to God says little that is new or unique. Its impact was largely due to the fact that it is a bishop of the established Church, who calls for a radically new way of approaching the Gospel, that ‘our image of God must go’. The author suggests a re-reading of Honest to God in the light of its impact which embraces a broader view of the Christian tradition, engaging mysticism and monasticism as possible and eclectic ways of approaching it and asking if Robinson's work could be regarded as prophetic.
