Don Cupitt and the Paradox of Taking Leave of God

Modern Believing (2014), 55, (3), 231–243.

Abstract

This article proposes that Don Cupitt's professed ‘taking leave of God’ is misleading. The theology needs to be understood in relation to three different Gods. The Protestant, punishing God is taken leave of. The mystical God is retained. The God in human relationships never makes Cupitt's acquaintance.
