The thoughtful mutineers: the publisher looks back at indexing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s final report

The Indexer: The International Journal of Indexing (2018), 36, (1), 5–8.

Abstract

Ryan Van Huijstee explores from the publisher’s point of view the challenges presented in preparing the final report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada for publication against a strict and very tight deadline. Not least of the challenges was the matter of the indexing, deemed crucial by the publishers. Ryan describes the recruitment of the indexers, the task and his initial anxiety that the indexers might be devising amongst themselves a methodology which did not quite coincide with that envisaged by the publishers. But the mutineers were thoughtful, and all turned out well.
