HIDDEN PAVEMENTS: THE RECORDS OF THE WESTMINSTER PAVING COMMISSION
Abstract
Important historical sources are not always visible. The Westminster Paving Commission was a city-wide authority but its records were effectively lost when they were archived with those of one parish. The work of the Paving Commission exemplifies how local and national history intertwined in eighteenth-century London, and gives the historian a fuller picture of the management of urban space.
