Venice's IUAV University's Archivio Progetti (Archive for Projects) was founded in 1987. Its original focus was on documenting the most significant contemporary architectural projects in Venice, to support the University's educational and research work. Over the years, the Archive's collections have gradually become oriented towards specific themes, with priority given to the history of the IUAV and the urban transformation of Venice during the 20th century. These have been reconstructed through the archives of architects and engineers who have been of particular significance for the city's history, architectural competitions and designs produced for the Venice Biennale. By way of donation or loan, within an arc of twenty years, twenty-five archives have been assembled with an approximate total of 1,150 meters of shelving occupied by original documents, a further 300 models and a 150,000 photographic items.
