Preparing the indexing quote

The Indexer: The International Journal of Indexing (2012), 30, (2), 100–102.

Abstract

Preparing an indexing quote for an editor or publisher is one of the most difficult and frightening parts of freelancing for indexers. You don’t want to over-quote, because you might not get the job, but you don’t want to underquote either, as you do have to make a living. This paper considers the three quoting methods – per page rate, per locator rate and hourly rate – and compares them using a practical indexing example, to determine which method is best.
