Alastair Horne gave a talk at the SI September 2016 Conference on the challenges and opportunities the publishing industry has faced over the last five years, and its prospects for the future. This is an updated and reworked version of that talk, dedicated to the memory of the much-loved literary agent Carole Blake, who died in October 2016.
