Cripping Homonormativity at International Mr. Leather

Journal of Literary & Cultural Disability Studies (2014), 8, (3), 275–294.

Abstract

The article examines the 2010 International Mr. Leather contest, in which wheelchair user Tyler McCormick competed and won the title, to argue that compulsory able-bodiedness does not always rely on compulsory heterosexuality, but also a twenty-first-century brand of homonormativity that emerges even in "anti-normative" sexual environments such as those dedicated to gay leather sex practices and identities.
