Abstract

The President of the American Society of Indexers assesses the current state of the American publishing industry and how it may affect American indexers in the 1990s. Indexers are urged to explore new and growing markets that are in need of their valuable services. The important role of professional indexing societies is stressed and examples of the activities of the American Society of Indexers are presented.
